DSLR Geo-tagging

Bluetooth Options (upside — no cables and if you’re shooting from a high-wing aircraft like i am you can put the receiver in the windscreen for satellite reception.  downside–no option for embedding camera shooting direction via solid state compass–obviously because the GPS has no clue what direction you’re pointing the camera because it’s sitting on the dash).  These products don’t include the GPS, just the bluetooth adapter for your camera:

1.  Foolography Unleashed

2.  Aoka AK-4N

3. Red Hen Blue2Can

Bluetooth GPS receivers:

1.  Holux GPS logger

2.  QStarz 1300s (bought this one for its claims of google earth ease)

Wired GPS: I don’t really care.  If you do, check out this list.  On second thought, maybe I should care.  2.

Software

1.  Picasa

2.  Aperture

More to come on Eye-Fi to live folders in Lightroom, Aperture, other slideshow apps or to auto-FTP folder.

baja 500. truly the wild west.

Okay so this is the truck we were “supporting.”  ”Ballistic B.J. Baldwin.”  That’s right, the ‘J’ stands for Junior. Watch the trademark burnout below.  Note the hood blew off around mile 400.  Click any link at this site to see all the other million dollar trucks wipe out themselves and anything in the way.  Some pretty rad jumping pics are here.

why do professional photographers have such crappy websites?

Most SUCK…despite amazing photography.  I base my judgment on the following fatal flaws:

–site load takes longer than 2 seconds

–all flash

–fixed width, looks tiny on my huge monitor (see above)

–confusing to navigate

–doesn’t change image sizes based on viewer’s platform (fast LAN vs ATT 3G)

–anything with a stupid “click here to enter” link or auto music

–no keyboard controls

–and basically anything on livebooks.com

http://www.philipharvey.com/ (nice pics…on a tiny corner OF MY screen)

http://www.mirjamevers.com/ (OMFG…auto music AND “enter here” link.  bye)

http://www.colebarash.com/ (lamebooks.  took 5 seconds to load on my

http://www.scottkelby.com/portfolio/ (this would be an amazing site ‘cept the flash menus don’t work on chrome, WTF)

http://www.chrisnichollsphotography.com/

GREAT!  Counterexamples (which probably cost thousands of dollars to develop):

http://mariotestino.com/ (sweet!  even if it is flash)

http://www.gregfoto.com/

http://www.linascheynius.com/numero.html (simple html, although horizontal is almost as annoying as auto-music)

http://www.grantgunderson.com/ (makes use of the whole browser window!)

http://www.carlosnunezphotography.com/ (nice simple html)

http://www.imagesby.com/main.html (flash load is too slow but wins for full screen panoramas)

yes…i know this site sucks too.  do as I say, not as I do.

School’s out for a month.  Therefore I’m posting all the junk I shot during it since I actually have time to now.

Technology note:  Lightroom plugin “fotoplayer” is not ready for primetime.  Don’t buy it…yet.  If your title bar says “fear” at the top its cause they have a LOT of bugs to work out.  Is it really that complicated?
